Standardization Facilities

Temperature Standardization Facilities include platinum-resistance thermometers and optical pyrometer calibration using standard lamps and copper-point blackbodies. Length standards include glass scales and bars of standard length. Time standards are bases on crystal clocks. All measured quanities are directly traceable to NIST standards. Standard reference materials on hand include sapphire (specific heat and expansion), tungsten (expansion, thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity), copper (expansion), borosilicate glass (expansion), fused silica (expansion), steel (thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity and expansion), iron (thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity), platinum-rhodium (emissivity), molybdenum (specific heat), oxidized kanthal and inconel (normal spectral emissivity) and numerous standards for calibrating the DSC. A precision machine shop and an electronic shop are an integral part of TPRL.
